asked the Minister for Finance whether any person held the office of private secretary to the Minister for Justice during the term of office of the personal assistant to the Minister from August, 1954, to March, 1957; whether the personal assistant, in addition to such duties as were assigned to him as personal assistant, also performed the duties usually performed by the private secretary; and if he will state the total salary and allowances paid to the personal assistant during the last year of his appointment and the total annual salary and allowances paid to the officer who was appointed as private secretary on the termination of the appointment of the personal assistant.

No person held the office of Private Secretary to the Minister for Justice during the term of office of the Personal Assistant to the Minister, the duties being performed by the Personal Assistant.

The total salary and allowance paid to the Personal Assistant during the last year of his appointment was £875 and the total annual salary and allowance paid to the Private Secretary who succeeded the Personal Assistant was £1,361.
