Vol. 183 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Shipping Ltd.: Provision for Depreciation.

25.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what depreciation is appropriate for the year 1959-60 in respect of the fleet of Irish Shipping Ltd. during which the Company expect to make a trading profit of £216,000 before providing for depreciation.

The audited accounts of Irish Shipping Limited for the year ended 30th April, 1960, are not yet available. The accounts, which will contain the information sought by the Deputy, will be presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas immediately I receive them, which should be some time next month.

Is it not rather odd, or does the Minister not think it odd that he should be in a position to give us the trading profit for a company for a certain year and yet not be able to tell us what is the depreciation allowance for that year?

That was advance information I received. The Deputy will have the full audited accounts within the course of a few weeks.

Could I have not anticipated the courtesy of the Minister to supply further advance information to me when I took the trouble to ask this question?

I took it that the Deputy would prefer to see the situation as a whole.

I would have preferred to see the depreciation allowance.
