Vol. 183 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin-Dún Laoghaire-Greystones Railway Line.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if in respect of the curtailment of train services on the Dublin/Dún Laoghaire/Greystones line by Córas Iompair Éireann the Company have complied with section 19, subsection (3), of the Transport Act, 1958; and if he will ensure that the provisions of the Act are adhered to.

I am informed by the Board of C.I.E. that, in restoring a service of trains to certain stations on this line, they have acted in accordance with legal advice and are complying fully with their legal obligations.

Is the Minister aware that subsection (3) of Section 19 of the 1958 Transport Act says the Board shall not terminate a service without giving at least two months' notice and that in this case the Company did not give two months' notice? What they did was substitute an alternative service to the one that was formerly provided.

C.I.E. have consulted the legal authorities and, as far as I understand, they have complied with the terms of the Act.
