Vol. 183 No. 7

Committee on Finance. - Social Welfare (Amendment) Bill, 1960: Report and Final Stages.

I should be grateful if the House would give me the Report and Final Stages today. I think that was generally agreed when we were discussing the matter last week. It is very important that we should have this Bill through the Seanad before the Houses rise for the Summer Recess.

I was not here last week.

That was the agreement.

Agreed to take the remaining Stages to-day.

Bill, as amended, received for final consideration and passed.

The Minister for Finance informed the House that it was expected this Bill would come into operation in January next.

That is what we are aiming at. If we do not get it this session, it cannot come into operation until April. We are hopeful now that it will be in operation in January.
