Vol. 183 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Semi-State Companies: Duties of Comptroller and Auditor General.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance what duties are imposed on the Comptroller and Auditor General in relation to the annual accounts of semi-State companies by the Exchequer and Audit Department Acts, 1866-1921, or by Article 33 of the Constitution.

While no specific duties are imposed on the Comptroller and Auditor General by the Exchequer and Audit Departments Acts, 1866-1921 or by Article 33 of the Constitution in relation to the accounts of semi-State companies, he has, under the Constitution, a general responsibility in relation to the audit of accounts of moneys administered by or under the authority of the Oireachtas pursuant to which arrangements exist under statute or otherwise for the audit of accounts of the semi-State bodies of which details were given in my reply to the Deputy's question on 24th March last.
