Vol. 183 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delays in Four Courts Scrivenery Office.

6.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he has received and investigated complaints from solicitors regarding delay in the Scrivenery Office in the Four Courts; how many of the staff in that Office are now solely engaged in work relating to one particular case which is the subject of criminal proceedings: and what action he proposes to take or has taken in order to avoid undue hardship to members of the legal profession and to the public arising from delay and accumulation of work in the Scrivenery Office generally.

I have received and investigated one such complaint. No member of the staff of the Central Scrivenery Office is now engaged on work relating to a case which is the subject of criminal proceedings. While, due to a combination of circumstances, there has been some delay and accumulation of work in the Scrivenery Office, I am not aware that undue hardship has been caused, as special arrangements were made to deal with urgent cases. There are at present no arrears of work of any consequence in the Central Scrivenery Office, and the position will continue to be kept under review.
