Vol. 183 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Petrol.

6.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in the public interest steps will be taken to enable independent companies at present operating in Britain to provide petrol supplies to the public at greatly reduced prices and so help to break the existing monopolistic trading practices and price rings operated by the petrol companies now selling petrol in the State.

There are no restrictions on the importation of petrol other than the customs duty, which is 1d. per gallon more than the excise duty levied on petrol produced in Ireland.
