Vol. 183 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leaving Certificate Examination: Drawing Paper.

36.

asked the Minister for Education whether in this year's Leaving Certificate Examination in the first question on the pass drawing paper a wrong measurement was given with the result that the drawing could not be completed; and that in the honours drawing paper there was a mistake in the scale of one diagram in the second question which gave rise to grave difficulties for the students; and, if so, what steps it is proposed to take in the marking of the papers affected by these mistakes.

I am aware that there was a discrepancy in the measurements shown in the diagram for question one in the Leaving Certificate Pass Paper in Mechanical Drawing and Design and that Leaving Certificate Honours candidates in the same subject may have been misled by a slight inaccuracy in the illustration for question two, although the measurements shown and the instructions given were entirely correct. Appropriate arrangements have been made to ensure that no candidate will suffer any loss of marks because of these circumstances.
