asked the Minister for Education what proposals are being considered by his Department for the erection of new schools in Limerick city and county; what the present position is in each case, and the estimated cost.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving particulars of the proposals for the erection of new national and vocational schools in the County of Limerick and the present position in each case.

Following is the statement:

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of erecting the new school. A tender has been accepted for its erection and work is in progress.

A suitable site has been offered by the Reverend Manager. Revised plans have recently been submitted for the consideration of the Commissioners of Public Works. When the plans have been finally approved of, the Department will be in a position to sanction a grant.

It was proposed to provide a separate Infants' School to relieve the overcrowding in St. Patrick's Boys' and Girls' Schools. The Reverend Manager has been asked to obtain a site for the new school. The manager has now suggested that the new school should be for boys instead of for infants and this matter is under consideration.

Ennis Road Boys'

It is proposed to provide a new school on or near the Ennis Road as the accommodation in St. Munchins' Christian Brothers' School is insufficient for this side of the City.

The question of carrying out improvements to the existing schoolinstead of providing a new school is under consideration.

VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS.

COUNTY LIMERICK:

(1) Rathkeale

This school will be in operation in the near future. The estimated cost of providing and equipping the school is £30,000.

(2) Kilmallock

Plans have been submitted and are at present under consideration in my Department. The estimated cost of this school is £30,500.

(3) Caherconlish

A site has been procured and an educational survey of the area is nearing completion. It is hoped shortly to convey a decision on the Committee's proposal to prepare sketch-plans. No estimate of the cost is available.

CITY OF LIMERICK:

(a) Schools of Commerce, Music and Art.

The sketch-plans and schedule of accommodation submitted for the adaptation of the former County Infirmary premises have been approved by my Department subject to certain amendments. An estimate of £72,500 has been furnished to my Department.

(b) Extension and renovation of the Technical Institution

Definite proposals in regard to this project have not been submitted by the Committee.
