Vol. 184 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discussions between County Managers and Medical Personnel.

14.

asked the Minister for Health whether the discussions between the county managers and representatives of the surgeons, physicians, medical officers of health, dentists and dispensary doctors in the service of the various health authorities, which he indicated on several occasions he would welcome, have yet taken place; and, if so, with what results.

I understand that discussions have taken place between the City and County Managers and representatives of the various groups mentioned in the question and that, as a result of these discussions, the Managers are about to submit to their Councils proposals for revisions of the salaries or salary scales as the case may be of most of the groups concerned. I have already indicated publicly that my approval would be forthcoming for any reasonable proposals for revision submitted to me by the various health authorities. It can, therefore, be taken that when the proposals are submitted to me, there will be no delay in dealing with them. Further, I have caused it to be known that, in view of the delays which have already occurred, I shall be prepared to approve proposals which involve a reasonable degree of retrospection.
