Vol. 184 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Accidents.

8.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of reported road accidents involving mechanically propelled vehicles from the 1st January last to the latest convenient date, indicating the number in which persons were (a) killed and (b) injured.

Road accident statistics are compiled on an annual basis, up to 31st December in each year, and are laid on the Table of the House. It is not possible without an elaborate and expensive special enquiry to supply in full the figures asked for in respect of any part of the current year. The following figures are, however, available in respect of the first nine months of this year:—

Number of fatal accidents involving mechanically propelled vehicles

195

Number killed in these accidents

198

Number of road accidents involving personal injury only, but not necessarily all involving mechanically propelled vehicles
