Vol. 184 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Dublin Pound.

11.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if in view of the considerable annoyance and anxiety being caused to Dublin residents by wandering horses he will take immediate steps, including mandamus proceedings, against the local authorities concerned to ensure that a pound on the south side of Dublin is provided without any further delay.

Dublin Corporation, which is the authority required by law to provide pounds in the city area, has provided a pound at Churchtown Road on the south side of Dublin. This pound was opened on 1st September, 1960.

Mr. Ryan

Would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate where this pound is situated?

It is situated at Churchtown Road and rejoices in the romantic name of "Barn Elms".

Mr. Ryan

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this pound is not being fully used or certainly is not sufficient to prevent the annoyance of wandering horses in Dublin suburbs? Will he take steps to inform the Garda authorities that more strict measures will have to be taken to prevent——

That is an entirely separate question.
