Vol. 185 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Accommodation Needs of N.U.I.

42.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has accepted the recommendation of the Commission on Accommodation Needs of N.U.I. to the effect that the planning and design of the new buildings at Belfield for University College, Dublin, should be the subject of an open architectural competition with an international board of assessors; and, if so, when it is intended to announce the terms of the competition.

As I informed the House when introducing on 23rd March, 1960, a token estimate towards the cost of additional accommodation for University College, Dublin, it is proposed to provide without delay on the Belfield site a building for Senior Science work to relieve immediate pressure on the College. No decision has been taken as yet regarding the holding of an open architectural competition for the planning and design of the other new buildings to be provided.
