Vol. 185 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Cork Holding.

32.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission propose to divide the holding acquired by them at Clash, Enniskeane, County Cork, between the local farmers and cottiers.

There are no lands available for division in the area in question. In 1956 the Land Commission acquired an estate of 428 acres in this district but these lands have been fully allotted.

Would the Minister state if the Land Commission are about to acquire a holding in the townland of Clash, Enniskeane, at present, and if they so acquire that holding, will it be distributed among the deserving applicants in the immediate locality?

I do not see how the Land Commission could divide a holding which they have not already acquired. All I can say is that, on the information before me, the holding they had acquired has already been divided.

Is there a likelihood that the holding they are about to acquire is to be given to some congested holders from outside the district rather than have it divided among the local applicants?

That is a separate question. I have no knowledge of any holding in the area the Land Commission may be about to acquire.
