Vol. 185 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sub-Post Offices: Night Telephone Service.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if in view of the heavy work in sub-post offices by reason of a twenty-four hour telephone service he will consider increasing the allowance for night service in these offices.

The special allowances for continuous telephone attendance at sub-offices are graded in accordance with the size of the exchange. Following acceptance of an agreed recommendation made by the Sub-Postmasters Consultative Council on a claim submitted by the Irish SubPostmasters' Union these special allowances were increased as from February, 1959. I am not aware of any material change in circumstances since then which would justify a further increase.

Could the Minister indicate what the percentage increase was?

It was six per cent.
