Vol. 185 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of School Uniforms and Equipment.

33.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will refer to the Fair Trade Commission the practice of some schools which compel their pupils to purchase school uniforms and equipment from particular shops at fixed prices.

The functions of the Fair Trade Commission under the Restrictive Trade Practices Act, 1953, are confined to the investigation of restrictive practices affecting the supply and distribution of goods and would not include matters of the kind referred to by the Deputy.
