Vol. 185 No. 7

Order of Business.

Business, as set out on the Order Paper, will be taken as follows: Nos. 1, 2, 3, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

May I make it quite clear that I already agreed that the Property Values (Arbitrations and Appeals) Bill, 1960, would be taken? I am bound by my agreement unless the Minister for Finance is prepared to drop it. Since then, I have received representations from an influential body of people who say they wish to consider this Bill more fully before it goes through. The kernel of the whole Bill for the Minister would be Section 6. So long as it is clear that there is no pending action which we are trying to stop under Section 6, I would be prepared to agree, when it comes on, that Section 6 would be supported by us as well and that nobody could bring any new action as from now until after the Recess. Would the Minister agree to leave it over until after the Recess?

I think the Deputy would agree that it would not be feasible to let this Bill stand over. I can assure him that there is no pending action.

Is it absolutely essential that the Minister should get the Bill before the Recess? Section 6 is the kernel. Would the Minister agree to leave over the matter until tomorrow and to consider the position between this and then?

I am much obliged.

In that case, we shall delete No. 16 from the Order of Business—without consultation with the Taoiseach.

I thought the notice had been issued.

I understood it was being taken today.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply to Question No. 37, I beg leave to raise the matter on the adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.
