Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loughrea Home: Reconstruction and Improvement.

9.

asked the Minister for Health what steps are being taken to proceed with the reconstruction and improvement of St. Brendan's Home, Loughrea, in view of the recent decision to transfer the chronically ill from that home to Merlin Park Sanatorium, Galway.

The recent decision to transfer 120 patients from St. Brendan's Home, Loughrea, to Merlin Park will result in a very substantial saving on the scheme which had been proposed for the reconstruction and improvement of St. Brendan's Home. It necessitates, however, fundamental changes in the sketch proposals which had been prepared and this aspect of the matter is at present being considered in my Department. Discussions will be held with the local authority in the early future with a view to determining the extent to which the original proposals can be scaled down. When basic decisions have been taken the planning of the revised scheme will be pressed forward.
