Vol. 185 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Tourist Road Grants.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total amount of tourist road grants allocated to (1) North Kerry and (2) South Kerry for road improvement during each of the financial years ended 31st March, 1959 and 1960.

The Tourist Road Grants consist of annual lump sum allocations to the counties in the scheme. The application of the grant to specific projects is in the first instance a matter for the local authority, subject to the general principles governing the scheme, which was primarily intended to provide for the improvement of the most important tourist and scenic routes in the counties concerned. Records are not kept in the Department of the regional distribution of the grant within the counties.
