Vol. 186 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Sickness Benefit in Stradbally (Laois).

31.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether it is correct that people from the Stradbally, Laois, area, entitled to sickness benefit under the Social Welfare Acts are compelled by a recent arrangement to travel to Portlaoise to receive their allowances; and, if so, whether he will take steps to ensure that the previous arrangement under which an official visited Stradbally once a week will be restored.

Persons from the Stradbally (Laois) area entitled to disability benefit under the Social Welfare Acts are not compelled to travel to Portlaoise to receive their cheques. They are, in fact, now paid directly by post. The need for action as suggested by the Deputy does not, therefore, arise in their case.
