Vol. 186 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Marine Works.

44.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to carry out the work for the erection of a breakwater at Cleanderry, Ardgroom, and the extension of the pier at Palace in County Cork, which have been under examination for some time by the technical staff of the Office of Public Works.

Engineering surveys have been carried out at these sites by the Office of Public Works. When the results have been studied, reports will be prepared for consideration by the interested Departments. It is not possible at this stage to say when work at either of the sites can be put in hands.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say how long they have been under consideration?

There are two surveys involved and the latter one has only recently been completed and will be under consideration for some time. It will be included as part of the minor marine works programme for the year 1961-62.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate how long these matters have been under consideration? Would two or three years be an exaggeration?

No; it was brought to our attention originally only in October, 1959.

That is nothing for the Board of Works.

Did they send you a postcard about it, or what?
