Vol. 186 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schull (Cork) Freezing Plant.

68.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has any scheme prepared for the utilisation of the freezing plant in Schull, County Cork.

The utilisation of the freezing plant at Schull is a matter for An Bord Iascaigh Mhara. I am sure the Board would be glad to receive any helpful suggestions in the matter.

It is a pity they did not put it where it was wanted.

Would the Minister not agree that this has been the subject matter of public or private representation over some years now and surely it would be within the competence of the Board to devise some suitable scheme for the utilisation of these premises which cost such a large amount of money to erect?

Certain freezing operations have in fact been carried out there but the reason why more work has not been carried out is the scarcity of supplies at prices which would make it economic to carry out freezing operations.
