Vol. 186 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mountmellick Town Commissioners: Auditor's Report.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has seen and considered the report of the local government auditor, dated 22nd November, 1960, concerning the accounts of the Mountmellick Town Commissioners for the year ended 31st March, 1960; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether in connection with the abstracts of accounts of the Mountmellick Town Commissioners he has been informed by the local government auditor that the amount of outstanding paying orders was entered for the amount of unpaid bills, and that a balance was achieved only by altering another entry in the statement of balances without any apparent reason other than to effect a reconciliation of the balances; if his Department consider this position to be satisfactory; what action he proposes to take in the matter; whether he has received an explanation; and, if so, what was the nature of the explanation so received.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 14 and 15 together. I have seen and considered the report in question. I communicated with the County Manager on the 2nd January enquiring what steps were being taken in the matter. I have been informed that the Manager is having the matter examined and a further report is awaited.

Does the Minister propose to examine the information which will be supplied by the county manager before reaching a final decision on the matter?

Naturally.
