Vol. 187 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Company Law Reform Committee.

7.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the date on which the Company Law Reform Committee reported to him; and when he expects to introduce legislation to give effect to their recommendations.

The Company Law Reform Committee reported to the Attorney General on 27th February, 1958. As the Deputy is aware, certain of the recommendations of the Committee were implemented by the Companies Act, 1959. A Bill, dealing with the many other alterations which are required in the companies code, is being drafted at present. Owing to the extremely complicated nature of the measure, I am not able to indicate when the Bill will be ready, but the Deputy may be assured that it will be introduced as soon as practicable.

Is the Bill to be introduced a comprehensive consolidated measure that will repeal all the existing Companies Acts and have all the new legislation for companies in one measure?

That is the intention.
