Vol. 187 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electoral Register.

8.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the 1961-62 electoral register the percentage of electors thereon who became twenty-one years of age between the 15th September, 1960 and the date of coming into operation of the new register.

In my Second Reading speech on the Electoral Act, 1960, I stated that I estimated that 20,000 to 25,000 persons who would not otherwise have been included in the forthcoming register should be registered in it on account of the provision in the Act enabling qualified persons who became 21 years of age between 16th September and 15th April, inclusive, to be registered. I am not in a position to give any more precise information.

9.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of people on the Register of Electors for each of the years from 1957 to 1961.

The reply which I gave to a similar question by Deputy Corish on 6th December last gives the information sought by the Deputy so far as it is at present available in my Department.
