Vol. 187 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions Oral Answers. - Rates Discount.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he will consider introducing legislation to amend the Local Government (Rates on Small Dwellings) Act, 1928, to enable a local authority to allow 10 per cent. discount for prompt payment of rates each year on or before 2nd August and 21st January.

Section 10 of the Local Government (Rates on Small Dwellings) Act, 1928, entitles the owner of a small dwelling, if he is not also the occupier, to a discount of ten per cent. if he pays the rates due in respect of such small dwelling within three calendar months of the striking of the rate or within two months after the furnishing to him of particulars of such rate. I do not consider that any amendment of this provision is necessary.
