asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give particulars of grants for (a) water supply schemes, (b) sewerage schemes, (c) housing grants and (d) road grants in County Dublin in (1) last year and (2) 1961-62 (estimated) in the form of replies of 11th April, 1961.

(a) and (b): State aid for water supply and sewerage schemes carried out by Dublin County Council is provided by way of a subsidy of up to 50 per cent. of the annual loan charges on the loans raised to finance approved schemes. Following are particulars of the amounts paid to the council under the heading in the financial year 1960/61 together with an estimate of the payments for 1961/1962.

(c) (1) Grants paid to private persons in Dublin County (excluding Dún Laoghaire Boro') in the financial year 1960/61:—

It is not possible to give an estimate for the financial year 1961/62.

(2) No grants were paid to Dublin County Council under Section 24 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952, in respect of the provision of houses under Section 35 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952, or under Section 27 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1948, in respect of the provision of reserved houses in the year 1960/61. No proposals for the provision of houses under either head during the current year are before the Department.

(3) Sums totalling £92,035 were paid to the Dublin County Council during 1960/61 as a contribution to housing loan charges. It is anticipated that sums totalling £72,000 will be paid under this head during the current financial year. The payments made in the financial year 1960/61 included arrears of outstanding contributions due in respect of previous years.

NOTE 1.—The grants in respect of main road upkeep represent 40% recoupment of approved provision by the council for the upkeep of main roads.

NOTE 2.—In the year 1960-61, £16,600 was transferred from the county road improvement grant to main roads by the county council in accordance with general conditions laid down by the Department.

NOTE 3.—Grants under the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote are made by the Special Employment Schemes Office each year. In 1960-61 the full allocation (shown) was devoted to road works. The allocation for 1961-62 has not yet been made by the Special Employment Schemes Office.

NOTE 4.—In addition to the above, preliminary works estimated to cost £40,000 were approved in 1960-61 for execution on the Dublin County Council section of the Dublin-Naas Road, the cost to be met out of a 1947 allocation of £500,000 for the improvement of the arterial roads leading to Dublin city.
