Vol. 189 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clare Electricity Charges.

18.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether with reference to his statement in a reply of the 8th March, 1961, that the increase in Electricity Supply Board charges to rural consumers was designed to increase revenue by five per cent., he will state the circumstances in which the charge on non-residential premises in County Clare has been increased by over fifteen per cent.; and whether steps will be taken to reduce this increased charge.

The statement made by me in reply to a Question on 8th March, 1961, was that the recent increase in charges, which applied to both urban and rural consumers, was designed to increase the total revenue by some 5 per cent. This figure refers to the overall effect of the recent increase but does not mean that each tariff was increased by exactly the same percentage. I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that no tariff was increased by as much as 15 per cent. If the Deputy would furnish the Board with details of the individual consumers concerned, the Board will investigate the matter.
