Vol. 189 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Community Centres in Dublin Areas.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps have been taken by Dublin Corporation to give effect to the resolution passed at a meeting of the Housing Committee on 15th April, 1955, requesting that tenders for the erection of community centers at Ballyfermot and at Crumlin South be expedited, and that financial provision be made for the erection of these centres.

I understand that the policy implied in the resolution of the Housing Committee in 1955 was not subsequently adopted by the Corporation.

I have, however, been informed that the Corporation decided in 1956 in favour of a policy of making available on housing estates sites at nominal charges for parish halls, community centres and similar buildings, whenever requested by representative persons or bodies prepared to erect such buildings at their own expense.
