Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of men employed by local authorities on road work during each of the years ended 31st March, 1954 to 1961, inclusive.

The above figures were compiled from monthly returns of employment on roads and bridges furnished by road authorities. They do not include employment on contract works, or employment on works financed under the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote, or employment afforded under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, in the years 1953/54 to 1956/57 inclusive. A final figure for March, 1961 is not yet available.
