Vol. 189 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956: Defence Force Service.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to amend the provisions of section 11 of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956, to permit an officer of the Defence Forces to transfer his Defence Force service on taking up permanent pensionable appointment as an officer of a local authority.

Amendment of the provisions of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956, is not at present contemplated.

Will the Minister then explain why the Dáil was misled by the White Paper on Local Government (Superannuation) Bill, 1955, which stated at page 6 concerning the service reckonable under Section 34: "The Service a pensionable servant may reckon under Section 34 is the same (except for teaching service, which is not applicable) as the service that may be reckoned by an officer"?

I cannot take responsibility for a White Paper of 1955, nor have I the knowledge the Deputy seeks. I will have a look at the White Paper, but so far as giving an explanation as to what is in it and why it is in it, I cannot.

Will the Minister look into the position?

When I have read what the Deputy says is there, I shall look into the matter.
