Vol. 189 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Population of Fíor-Ghaeltacht Areas.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the total population of areas regarded officially as Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas in December 1926, December 1936, December 1946, December 1956 and December 1960.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report two statements, one showing for 1926, 1936, 1946 and 1956, the population in each county of the Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas as defined in the report of Coimisiún na Gaeltachta and the other showing for 1946 and 1956 the population in each county of the Gaeltacht areas as defined by Ordú na Limistéirí Gaeltachta, 1956.

These data have been compiled from the Censuses of Population taken in the years in question and no later particulars are available.

Following are the statements:—

POPULATION as recorded in the Censuses of Population 1926, 1936, 1946 and 1956 of the Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas (in each County) as defined in the report of the Coimisiún na Gaeltachta.
