asked the Minister for Lands the total acreage of land in County Kerry acquired for forestry purposes in each of the years 1957-58, 1958-59, 1959-60 and 1960-61, together with the total acreage now on offer and in the process of being acquired for such purposes.

The total areas acquired by the Forestry Division of my Department in Co. Kerry in the years specified were as follows:— 1957/58 — 2,868 acres, 1958/59 — 907 acres, 1959/60—1,989 acres and 1960/61 — 1,972 acres.

There are at present 227 areas totalling 23,442 acres on offer to my Department for afforestation purposes in Co. Kerry. Agreement to puchase has been reached in the case of 27 of these areas totalling 2,125 acres and title is in course of clearance. Negotiations to puchase are in progress with the owners of another 28 areas totalling 3,566 acres. The remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation.
