Vol. 189 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of specific instance or nominee site houses in Dublin County during the past six years the number of proposals for houses submitted to his Department for sanction and the number of houses (i) sanctioned and (ii) not sanctioned, indicating whether the nominee site houses qualified for a subsidy on loan charges of 2/3rds or 1/3rd.

The Department's records of housing schemes which have been sanctioned do not identify the number of houses the erection of which on nominee sites was proposed or sanctioned. Similarly, the amount of annual subsidy determined for each scheme is not related to the question whether or not houses were provided on nominee sites. The differential rate of subsidisable loan charges in respect of cottages provided under the Labourers Acts is applicable only to cottages the erection of which was commenced on or after 30th June, 1958, and is financed out of loans sanctioned on or after that date.

I have, however, ascertained from the housing authority concerned that between the dates 23/9/1952 and 31/12/1960, they have provided a total of 974 cottages of which 60 were built on nominee sites. Subsidy under the differential rate procedure has been fixed in respect of only one scheme provided by the housing authority, comprising seven cottages which, I understand, were built on nominee sites. Six of the seven cottages in this scheme qualified for the higher subsidy rate.
