Vol. 189 No. 10

Written Answers. - Purchases for Government Departments or Local Authorities.

64.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the goods purchased for Government Departments or local authorities which must be purchased by his Department in the first instance.

No goods are purchased by my Department for the use of other Government Departments or local authorities.

65.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will indicate the goods purchased for Government Departments which must be purchased by his Department in the first instance.

The purchasing generally of goods required for the Government service is divided, by means of an approved allocation list, between three central purchasing Departments of which my Department is one. Very broadly the position is that my Department deals with all requirements with the exception of (a) buildings, furniture and fittings and (b) printing, stationery and office equipment. No complete list of the items is available but a general list showing the classes of stores purchased by my Department is to be found at page 380 of Part I of the current Telephone Directory.

In addition to the items purchased by the three central purchasing Departments, some individual Departments make their own arrangements for the supply of specialised stores and equipment used by themselves only.
