Vol. 190 No. 1

Order Of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 2 and 12 and in No. 12, Votes 30 to 38 inclusive, and Votes 8, 9, 10. It is proposed to adjourn the House at 7 p.m. As agreed it is proposed to commence business tomorrow morning at 10.30 a.m. and continue until 10.30 p.m.

May I ask the Minister whether it is proposed to give Government time for discussing Motion No. 16, concerning the Attorney General?

I have no instructions on that matter but I can say it is not proposed to give Government time for that purpose.

Is it because Government time is so precious at the moment that they cannot afford to have such an important matter discussed?

They are too busy wining and dining.

If it is possible to adjourn the Dáil at 7 o'clock when it should be sitting and doing business, surely it should be possible to make Government time available for the discussion of a motion of this importance?

If the Deputy objects to adjourning the House, he has his remedy.

In those circumstances, I object strongly to the adjournment of the House and I ask that it be not adjourned until the Government can make time available for the discussion of this motion, before the Attorney General takes part in another case against the poor people of this country.

That is a gross misrepresentation of the facts.

It is not a gross misrepresentation of the facts, but the facts as disclosed by the President of the High Court.

The Deputy's objection will be noted.

I am objecting to the fact that the Government have decided to adjourn this House at 7 o'clock this evening and I should like you to take full note of that. I should also like, if it is possible, to have a discussion on it, either now or later.

There cannot be a discussion on it at this stage.

May I put it that I formally move now that the Dáil continue with its normal procedure until 10.30 tonight? This is the first indication I have had of the decision to adjourn at 7 o'clock.

It was announced last week.

The Deputy must wait until the Motion for the Adjournment is moved before taking that action.

I understood that the Minister on behalf of the Taoiseach had moved it now.
