Vol. 190 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Losses on Exports of Butter.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the total amount paid this year to make good losses on exports of butter.

The total amount paid in the financial year 1960-61 in respect of export losses on butter was £2,383,727.

Would the Minister state by how much this figure has been inflated in consequence of the removal of the subsidy on butter on the home market?

Surely, it has been reduced.

I would want a little notice of that question to see whether it was reduced or increased.

Is the Minister contending that because the price was drastically increased on the home market, the effect was to increase consumption on the home market?

That does not relevantly arise out of this question.

I should like to point out that my question asked for the total losses for this year.

I have not got the figures for this year. They would be incomplete. I can only give last year's figures.

Has the Minister any figures to date for this year?

I think there are some, but I am afraid I have not got them with me now.
