Vol. 191 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Compulsory Purchase Orders.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the dates of application from Cork County Council (South Cork) requesting sanction for Compulsory Purchase (No. 1) Order, 1960, and Compulsory Purchase (No. 1) Order, 1961, relating to the proposed acquisition of housing sites; and when a decision may be expected on them.

The South Cork (No. 1) Order, 1960, made on the 30th September, 1960, was received in my Department on 11th October, 1960, and the South Cork (No. 1) Order, 1961, made on 10th February, 1961, was received on 29th April, 1961.

I hope to be in a position very shortly to issue a decision on both of these Orders.

Is it not true to say that the period since October up to the present time is an unduly long period in which to have a county council awaiting sanction from the Minister?

I could not accept that on the facts before me.

In view of the fact that the area from which this application has come is North-East Cork, Deputy Corry's area, would the Minister not now speed up sanction?

We would not be influenced by any such mundane consideration.
