Vol. 191 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Housing Loans.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of applicants who applied to the Land Commission for loans for the erection of dwelling houses, whose applications were successful since loans became available.

I presume the Deputy is referring to applications to the Land Commission for advances to supplement grants made by the Department of Local Government for the erection of dwellinghouses.

The approximate number of such advances made since 1934—the earliest date for which relevant statistics are recorded—is 3,000.

I should, perhaps, add that, during this period, some 11,000 new dwelling-houses were provided for tenants and allottees, by or with financial assistance from the Land Commission, as part of the land settlement programme.
