Vol. 191 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - United Nations Budgets.

8.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what the United Nations budgets for the years 1960 and 1961 were; what amounts Ireland, the United States of America and the U.S.S.R. were assessed for; and what contributions were actually paid by each of these three countries.

As the reply is in tabular form I propose with the Ceann Comhairle's permission to circulate it with the Official Report.

In addition to the assessed contributions Ireland and the United States have made voluntary contributions of $25,000 and $10,000,000 respectively to the United Nations Fund for the Congo to cover the cost of the civilian side of Congolese relief. In 1960, the United States also made voluntary contributions of $14,000,000 to the cost of the Military Operation in the Congo and of $3,200,000 to the budget of the Emergency Force in Gaza. It has pledged similar voluntary contributions of $15,000,000 and of $1,800,000 respectively to these funds in its financial year 1961-62 which began on July 1st.
