Vol. 191 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Survey of Industrial Sector.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give details of the arrangements stated by the Taoiseach in the Dáil on 5th July to have been made for a comprehensive survey of the industrial sector; what industries were on the initial list of those to be surveyed; what approaches to or meetings with representatives of such industries have taken place, and at what dates; and what further, if any, activity by the Government is contemplated.

At various dates since 5th July, eight industries have been approached regarding the survey and meetings have been held with some of these and have been arranged with others; some visits to factories have taken place. Arrangements are being made for the inclusion of additional industries in the survey and, as mentioned in the statement of 5th July, it is intended to extend the survey to cover the widest possible range of industries. As indicated in reply to a question by Deputy Sweetman on 18th July, 1961, I do not consider it appropriate, at this stage, that the initial list of industries should be published.
