Vol. 191 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Piped Water Supply for Galway Rural Areas.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that statements have been made to the effect that the scheme to provide piped water for rural areas in County Galway will cost up to ten shillings in the pound on the county rates; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Any statements which might have been made to this effect cannot have been based on fact.

The Galway County Water Supplies Survey has not been completed, and accordingly the cost of any programme which may eventually be adopted as a result of its findings has yet to be ascertained. I have no reason to believe that the actual cost will involve a rates charge of anything like the amount mentioned.
