Vol. 191 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Congestion in Galway Villages.

33.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made to relieve congestion in the villages of (a) Derryglassaun, Menlough, and (b) Boughil, Ballyforan, County Galway.

In Derryglassaun, an area of 20 acres has come into possession of the Land Commission, following the recent migration of a family from the townland. Proceedings are currently in progress for acquisition of a further 20 acre holding while an area of 16 acres is under observation. Proceedings were also instituted in respect of a 12 acre holding in the townland but owner's objection was recently allowed.

In Boughil, the possibility of acquiring an area of 27 acres was considered by the Land Commission but proceedings did not prove feasible. At present, enquiries are being directed towards another holding in the townland.

Efforts are continuing to secure for relief of congestion, in the townlands mentioned, any suitable lands which may become available for acquisition. The possibility of effecting further migrations will also be investigated.
