Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Smoke and Other Pollution in Cork.

96.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on industrial smoke and other pollution in Cork City and suburbs.

On my Department's recommendation, measurements of air pollution in Cork are being carried out by the Corporation since May, 1958. While the results to date indicate that Cork, possibly because of its topography, is subject to a higher degree of pollution than might be expected in a city on a comparable level of industrialisation, they do not indicate any present danger to health. Tests are, however, being continued with a view to a firm evaluation of the degree of pollution and of the remedial measures which may be practicable.
