Vol. 192 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killybegs Fertiliser Plant.

49.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make representation to the interested parties as to the desirability of establishing a fertiliser plant at Killybegs, County Donegal, where there are ample harbour facilities and a Gaeltacht hinterland with a big unemployment problem.

I have received no proposal for the establishment of a fertiliser plant at Killybegs and do not know who the interested parties are to whom the Deputy refers.

I am anxious, at all times, to help the development of industrial proposals which have a sound economic basis, particularly when these are for an undeveloped area, such as County Donegal. I appreciate that there are the harbour facilities at Killybegs mentioned by the Deputy and wish to assure him that this will be borne in mind in considering any proposals for that area.
