Vol. 192 No. 7

53.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that whiting recently sold by fishermen at Howth for 5/- per box of five stone was subsequently retailed in Dublin at 2/4 per lb.; if he will state the reason for the wide disparity between the prices paid by the consumer and obtained by fishermen; and if he will rectify this to arrange a more equitable price structure.

I have no function in the matter of retail prices. In the development of our sea fisheries, however, Government policy is aimed at securing continuity of supply and increased demand which should result in an equitable price structure.
