Vol. 192 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Forestry Lands.

52.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made in the acquiring of land for afforestation at Cheekpoint, County Waterford; and when work is likely to start there.

No lands have yet been acquired for planting in the vicinity of Cheekpoint but the Forestry Division of my Department has agreed to purchase four small areas totalling 40 acres and title is in course of clearance. Negotiations to purchase four other areas totalling 42 acres are in progress. There are a number of other small offers in the district, the acquisition of which is dependent on the outcome of proceedings in the cases already mentioned. In addition there is an area of 47 acres on offer in respect of which it is expected to make progress towards acquisition in the near future.

At this stage I am unable to say when development work will commence.
