Vol. 192 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Wages: Rank and File Representation.

95.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will ensure in any proposed change of the procedure whereby Garda wages claims are formulated and negotiated that the procedure is organised so as to allow the rank and file of the Gardaí to have a say in the formulation of such wages claims and in their negotiation.

In my examination of the machinery available to members of the Garda Síochána for making representations regarding pay, I shall regard it as important to provide that each Garda is given every facility to record his vote in the election leading to nominations of members of the Representative Body. This will ensure that the persons selected by the Gardaí to formulate and initiate pay claims on their behalf under the Garda Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme are representative of the Force.
