Vol. 192 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Statutory Instruments: Consolidation of Orders.

97.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the contents of paragraph 13 of the Third Report of the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments wherein the view is expressed that there is a clear need for consolidating the series of Orders relating to solicitors' costs for non-contentious business; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the paragraph of the Seanad Select Committee's Report to which the Deputy refers. General Orders under section 2 of the Solicitors' Remuneration Act, 1881, as adapted, are made by a Statutory Body consisting of the Chief Justice, the President of the High Court, the Senior Ordinary Judge of the Supreme Court, and the President of the Incorporated Law Society. As will be seen from Appendix XI to the Select Committee's Report, the views of the Committee were communicated to the Chief Justice.

I have arranged that a copy of the Deputy's question and a copy of my reply will be brought to the notice of the Statutory Body.
