Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compulsory Health Insurance: Effect on Prices.

10.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Health the estimates on which he based his recent statement that a compulsory health insurance scheme would impose stated price increases in a range of important items of consumer goods.

I assume the Deputy is referring to my statement in the House on 23rd November, 1961, on the motion on the health services. While I indicated then that the employer's share of health insurance contributions would be passed on to the consumer in the prices of the goods which are bought, I did not give any estimate as to what the increases in prices might be.
